Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity and Appleton Habitat ReStore observe Earth Day with free community celebration

ReStore’s Eco-Friendly Fun Fest to include community organizations and sustainable crafts for families

Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity, a leader in affordable housing solutions, is celebrating Earth Day at its Appleton Habitat ReStore, located at 5402 W. Integrity Way in Appleton (map) from 2-6 p.m. on Earth Day, Monday, April 22, 2024 with an Eco-Friendly Fun Fest.

“Almost everything we do at the ReStore is about eliminating waste and reusing as much as possible, so celebrating Earth Day is a natural fit for us here at the ReStore,” explained JD Gildemeister, Appleton Habitat ReStore manager. “We’re partnering with community organizations to offer family friendly events that support protecting the earth. Additionally, families can shop at the ReStore and know that while they are helping to eliminate landfill waste, their purchases also directly support the Fox Cities Habitat mission.”

In the more than 20 years the Appleton Habitat ReStore has been around, it has diverted over 50 MILLION pounds of usable materials from the local landfill, including more than 1.1 million pounds in 2023 alone. This is possible because most of what is sold at the Appleton Habitat ReStore is donated home materials that are then reused by people in the community who shop at the ReStore.

Families are encouraged to see what the ReStore has to offer on Earth Day with the Appleton Habitat ReStore’s Eco-Friendly Fun Fest. The event includes:

  • Rain barrel kits and a demo from Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance
  • Garden crafts with local Girl Scout Troops
  • Wooden spinning top creation
  • Urban wood and woodcraft vendors
  • A presentation on recycling
  • New seasonal specials on merchandise inside the ReStore

In addition to attending the Earth Day event, shoppers can browse what is available in the Appleton Habitat ReStore online by visiting appletonrestore.org. When a customer finds an item they want to purchase, they can reserve it and it will be held for them. Some common items often offered at the Appleton Habitat ReStore include:

  • Couches, tables, dressers and other furniture
  • Flooring (tile, vinyl, and carpeting)
  • Building materials and tools
  • Windows and doors
  • Paint and paint supplies
  • Refrigerators, freezers and ovens
  • Cabinets, countertops, vanities, toilets, sinks and fixtures
