UA 400 and Mechanical Contractors Association Host Heat Up Your Future Skills Competition on February 7

 UA 400 Pipe Trades and the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) will host the Heat Up Your Future Skills Competition on Wednesday, February 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the UA 400 Training Center in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. This event is “free” and gives high school students the opportunity to explore their interest and aptitude for a career in the trades, tour the 61,000 square foot UA 400 training center and meet with representatives from UA 400 and contractors in Northeast Wisconsin. 

The competition involves having eighteen high school teams construct a wood-burning pipe stove per specifications to showcase specific welding techniques and processes. After completing the pipe stove project, students will be able to use the stove as a heat source for cooking and boiling water. Each participating high school team will be entered in a drawing and one lucky school will win a Miller MultimaticÒ 255 Multiprocess Welder.

UA 400 Pipe Trades offers paid apprenticeships in pipefitting, pipe fabrication, plumbing and HVAC/R service. Their five-year apprenticeship programs provide classroom instruction and on-the-job training from UA Certified Instructors at UA 400 training centers alongside experienced UA journeyworkers. Graduates of the UA 400 Apprentice Program are trusted to deliver only the highest quality of work in the pipe trades industry. UA 400 works in conjunction with the Mechanical Contractors Association of Wisconsin (MCA) to serve the unique needs of local contractors.To get a jumpstart on a career in the trades, UA 400 also offers a Youth Apprentice Program for juniors and seniors attending area high schools, which is open to students ages 16+.

High school teams complete a pipe stove project based on specific design requirements. Projects are judged on correct dimensions, weld quality and design/appearance. The competition allows local high school students to test their skill and         connect with experts in the trades. There will be a drawing for one lucky high school team to win a Miller MultimaticÒ 255 Multiprocess Welder.
