Tundraland Home Improvements gave teen the gift of music through Mile of Music scholarship

Funds raised from Mile of Music’s Singing in the Shower booth helped send a local teen to music school at Heid Music in downtown Appleton

Tundraland Home Improvements, a LEAF Home company specializing in baths, walk-in showers and decks, made a 16-year-old’s dream of playing the drums come to life by gifting a local student with the Tundraland Mile of Music scholarship on Wednesday, February 1 at Heid Music at 4 p.m., located at 308 E. College Ave. in Appleton (map).

Audrey Lingnofski of Menasha, says music runs through her veins and she has been trying to get her parents to buy her a drum set for the past three years. She played clarinet in middle school and has been a dancer all her life, but Lingnofski said the drums are her true passion. She fell in love with drums on a family vacation where she toured the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and got to test out a drum simulator.

Ever since my dad and brother started the guitar, playing an instrument has been a desire of mine,” explained Lingnofski. “I was never in love with the clarinet, but the idea of being able to play the drums just amazes me. It’s the backbone and heart of every song. It keeps everything else on track, and if the song is really good, the drummer even gets the spotlight. I want to be that spotlight, that backbone.”

Paul Lukowski, president of Tundraland said he was inspired by Lingnofski’s essay, a requirement to receive the Mile of Music scholarship, where a student writes about what instrument they want to learn to play and how it will impact their life.

“Audrey’s story is one of many incredible stories we received throughout the course of this year’s selection process,” explained Lukowski. “We were moved by her lifelong passion for music that she discusses throughout her essay.”

Tundraland values music and the arts and has put an emphasis on these programs since its inception. The Mile of Music Scholarship program began in 2015 to provide a platform for a local student to follow their musical dreams.

The Tundraland Mile of Music scholarship is made possible through Tundraland’s Singing in the Shower booth outside the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel in downtown Appleton during Mile of Music, a festival in which Tundraland has been heavily involved as a sponsor for years. For every 250 people who sang in the shower, Tundraland promised to send one child to music school. A variety of singers, from professionals to little kids, came to sing in the shower at this popular booth at Mile of Music. As a result of these talented singers, Tundraland is able to provide music lessons at Heid Music in downtown Appleton for a local child.
