Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic invites the community to join in an enchanting evening on Thursday, Oct. 12, for BRAs of the Bay 2023. This highly anticipated event has been organized to raise awareness about breast reconstruction while offering a night of enjoyment, celebration and all things pink.
- Event Date: Thursday, October 12, 2023
- Time: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
- Location: Resch Expo, 840 Armed Forces Drive, Ashwaubenon · Tickets: $20 per person at baycareclinic.com/bras
- Parking: Available across the street from the Resch Expo at Lambeau Field in lots 1 and 4.
The event seeks to close the loop on breast cancer by informing breast cancer patients of their right to reconstruction.
“This annual event is about awareness,” says Dr. Elizabeth A. O’Connor, a plastic surgeon with BayCare Clinic. “Patients need to be made aware of their rights under the federal law. Insurance policies that cover a mastectomy must also cover the cost of breast reconstruction surgery for breast cancer patients. Many patients are still unaware of this important fact. This event is simply an effort to help spread the word.”
The federal law also requires insurance companies that cover mastectomies for breast cancer patients to cover breast reconstruction even if the procedure is delayed until after treatment for cancer.
BRAs of the Bay is part of a national effort by the Breast Reconstruction Awareness USA Campaign to educate, engage and empower women to make the decision that is best for them when diagnosed with breast cancer.
In this local effort to create awareness, Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic has invited area businesses and individuals to decorate and display a bra at BRAs of the Bay. This creative display is always a highlight of the event, giving bra decorators a creative way to share hope with breast cancer patients. Event attendees will have the chance to vote for their favorite bra that night. Online voting will also be an option October 2-11.
People can participate in BRAs of the Bay in multiple ways at baycareclinic.com/bras:
- Vote for your favorite decorated bra from October 2-11.
- Donate to the cause now through the end of the year.
- Attend BRAs of the Bay on October 12 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Eighty percent of proceeds raised will go to Ribbon of Hope, a non-profit organization that provides financial, educational and emotional resources to breast cancer patients in northeastern Wisconsin. Twenty percent will go to the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day USA organization.
A media opportunity will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Resch Expo, before the event begins at 6:00 p.m. Doctors and event organizers will be available for interviews.
