Mayor Jane Lang of Neenah and Mayor Don Merkes of Menasha are proud to announce that Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue (NMFR) has attained Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification 1. NMFR now joins the list of only nine other fire departments in Wisconsin and 498 in the United States who have achieved the prestigious ISO Class 1 rating.

This is the highest classification that can be achieved for a community, and it demonstrates the extremely high level of capabilities and service provided by NMFR. ISO assigns a classification rating from 1 to 10, with Class 1 representing the highest level of fire protection and service. This top-tier classification will be effective on March 1, 2024.

The ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC) is used when calculating residential and business insurance premiums. Improving the ISO classification can lead to a reduction in insurance premiums for residents and businesses in the cities of Neenah and Menasha.

What does this mean to the public and businesses within Neenah and Menasha? Residential and commercial property owners should be proud of their community and may be eligible for improved rates starting in spring of 2024 due to the upgraded rating. The ISO Class 1 rating is not only a point of pride for NMFR but also holds significant implications for the economic development prospects of both cities. Communities with a Class 1 rating are often viewed favorably by businesses, insurers, and investors, as creating a positive environment for economic growth.

“It’s an honor to be able to achieve this elite ranking. Neenah-Menasha Fire is proud to achieve this goal, with the tireless help of Neenah and Menasha Water Utility, Winnebago County Communications Center, and ALL of our staff at Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue. It’s very rewarding knowing that this team has helped make Neenah and Menasha a safer place to live and work,” said Chief Kevin Kloehn.
