J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is proud to announce a record-breaking achievement during this year’s Clear the Shelters Month. The organization successfully found homes for 519 animals in August, including a staggering 57 adoptions on the final day. This milestone brings the total number of animals adopted in 2024 to 2,121, surpassing last year’s total of 2,006, with four months still remaining in the year.

The rescue’s efforts culminated in waiving $3,112 in adoption fees during the final week, ensuring that dozens of animals could find loving homes. Throughout the month, the dedicated team of volunteers and staff at JRAAR worked tirelessly to match animals with families, emphasizing the importance of responsible pet ownership and the joy of adopting a rescued pet.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the results of this year’s Clear the Shelters Month,” said John Moyles, Director of J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. “The overwhelming support from our community and the tireless efforts of our volunteers have made this achievement possible. Seeing 519 animals find their forever homes in just one month is beyond anything we could have imagined. We’re proud to be part of such a compassionate community that understands the importance of giving these animals a second chance.”

JRAAR has been a leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of aquatic and exotic animals in Wisconsin. Since its inception in February 2020, the organization has found homes for over 7,000 animals. The success of Clear the Shelters Month highlights the continued need for public awareness and support in rescuing and rehoming animals.

As the organization moves forward, it remains committed to its mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. The record number of adoptions this year underscores the community’s commitment to supporting rescue efforts and the ongoing need for such initiatives.

JRAAR encourages anyone interested in adopting, donating, volunteering, or learning more about responsible pet ownership to visit their Linktree for more information. The rescue also welcomes community members to share their stories and photos of adopted pets, celebrating the positive impact of rescue work.
