Davis family will plant their roots in Seymour with the support of the community
Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity, a leader in affordable housing solutions, is excited to help the Davis family put down roots at a home of their own in Seymour, located at 736 Foote St. (map). Fox Cities Habitat will break ground on the new home with a tree-planting event on Friday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m.
The Davis family consists of Sara and Nick, as well as their five children: 10-year-old Elijah, 7-year-old Adonias, 4-year-old Malachi, 2-year-old Alayna and the newest member little Evelyn who is just a few weeks old.
The Davis family has lived in Seymour for the past five years. The three older children struggle with various disabilities and Nick and Sara have worked tirelessly with their children’s teachers to set up programs that work for the kids. Now that the children have a stable learning environment with the local school district, the Davis family has chosen to stay in the Seymour area and build a home with the help of Habitat for Humanity.
“In the past decade we have had to move eight different times due to issues such as mold and cockroaches,” explained Sara Davis. “These issues have even forced us into homelessness at one point. I can’t tell you what it means to have a safe and healthy home to raise my children in and a yard they can play in. This will be a life-changing experience for us and I am so grateful to Habitat for Humanity and the Seymour community for helping us make this dream come true.”
Currently, the Davis family is in a three-bedroom rental that continues to increase in cost. Due to difficulties in the housing market, it’s been nearly impossible for the Davis family to find a home to call their own until they discovered Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity.
The home is only made possible by the support of generous donors to Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity. Good Faith Funding of De Pere has made a $50,000 donation, covering half of the sponsorship goal, in hope of inspiring the same generosity throughout Seymour and beyond.
“Fox Cities Habitat prides itself on helping to change lives every day and we’re doing it again for these children. A home isn’t just a place to live, it’s a door to many other opportunities that allow a family to thrive and trickle down through generations,” explained John Weyenberg, president and CEO of Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity. “We’re excited to be back in the Seymour community after a number of years and look forward to the support we’re receiving from the community to help this family put down roots and continue to flourish here.”
