Giving Students a Head-Start in the Construction Industry

Hoffman’s Andres, Grube, and Dombrowski to speak at state education convention

Since the start of 2017, more than $1.5 billion worth of facility projects have passed through school district referendums in Wisconsin. This has been great news for the state’s construction industry and school districts, and it also presents an amazing opportunity for construction and design students looking for a unique learning and career experience.

Youth apprenticeships and internships will be the topic of Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc.’s presentation at the 2024 Wisconsin State Education Convention in Milwaukee on Wednesday, January 17. Hoffman’s Jody Andres and interns Haley Grube and Colton Dombrowski will share their experiences.

“Many students have shown an interest in the design and construction profession but have struggled to gain much experience or knowledge beyond their technical education classes,” explained Andres, Hoffman Senior Project Architect and K-12 Market Leader. “We feel it’s important to let both districts and students know the possibilities that apprenticeships and internships can offer.”

Their presentation, “The Benefits of Youth Apprenticeships and Internships,” will address the topic from both an employer and student perspective. Grube is a Hoffman design intern and current graduate student at UW-Milwaukee, while Dombrowski is a Hoffman construction intern and current senior at Amherst High School.

Hoffman has worked with more than 75 public school districts, private schools, and charter schools throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois and is an industry leader in sustainable planning, design, and construction. This is the ninth time in the past twelve years that Hoffman has been invited to speak and share insight at the state convention.
