Fox City Flix presents giving-themed holiday movie event

Appleton West High School hosts community event that raises money for local organizations and collects blankets for Day by Day Warming Shelter and B.A.B.E.S.

flixOn Saturday, Dec. 17 from 5:30 – 7 p.m., Fox City Flix, a family-run movie entertainment company based in Neenah, Wisconsin, presents a holiday community movie event, premiering “The Grinch” at the Appleton West High School gymnasium, located at 610 N. Badger Ave. (map). Before the movie premier, a dance and a raffle of a signed Green Bay Packers football will be held in the gymnasium. The dance and raffle will start at 4:30 p.m.

This charitable event is open to the community and brings the fun of the holidays to the Fox Cities. Those attending the viewing of “The Grinch” are asked to bring a new blanket with them. All blankets will be collected and donated to two area charities, Day by Day Warming Shelter, a temporary day shelter that helps adults connect with resources to get back on their feet and B.A.B.E.S., a 501 (c3) nonprofit child respite care service to support young parents during times of crisis in the Fox Valley.

“A blanket seems like such a simple item, but when you’re cold or struggling it can provide comfort and warmth at a time when you might have little of that in your life,” explained William Green, owner of Fox City Flix, “We know the holidays can be a tough time for families and we hope these blankets can spread a little joy this holiday season”.

In addition to the blanket donations, volunteers from Aaron’s Heart of Gold will be selling movie concessions, consisting of hot chocolate, apple cider, nachos, hot dogs, popcorn and candy. All proceeds raised through concession sales will go to support Aaron’s Heart of Gold, a nonprofit organization started by the Wheeler family that aims to collect donations for medical expenses their son Aaron accrues due to a congenital heart defect.

“Aaron is on the list for a new heart, but so far he hasn’t been able to get one,” explained Aaron’s mother, Miracle Wheeler. “We never thought we would be dealing with medical bills of this magnitude with such a young child. We’ve hosted several community donation events and fundraisers, and each time the community stepped up to support our son. The Fox Valley is truly a special place”.

Fox City Flix is hoping to collect 100 blankets for B.A.B.E.S. and Day by Day Warming Shelter. The Fox City Flix movie event is made possible through several generous sponsors and organizations, including: the Appleton Area School District, Fox City Flix, BIPOC, US Venture, Esther, Aaron’s Heart of Gold and Day by Day Warming Shelter.
