For the first time Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity provides free home renovations up to $10,000 at Rock the Block in Chilton

Neighborhood to be revitalized at no cost to homeowners due to extreme generosity of local donors May 11-13, 2023

The Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity, a leader in affordable housing solutions, is kicking off its spring Rock the Block event in Chilton on May 11-13, 2023. For the first time, home improvements and exterior renovations of community spaces will be provided at no cost for the first $10,000 of each project, due to extreme generosity from community donors who wish to remain anonymous. Despite homeowners receiving a hand-up, this is not a free handout to homeowners. Those having work done to their home during Rock the Block are required to help with their home renovation project or with community projects that are a part of Rock the Block in what Habitat calls “sweat equity.”

“Historically, Rock the Block renovates the exteriors of homes with a zero-interest loan that homeowners pay back once the home is sold,” explained John Weyenberg, CEO of Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity. “Donors to Chilton’s Rock the Block recognized that in today’s economy, any additional debt may be a barrier to participation for homeowners. Their outstanding contributions have made it possible to cover the cost of these projects, eliminating the need for any loan. It is the ultimate neighbors helping neighbors scenario.”

Not only is this the first time Rock the Block is able to provide exterior home renovations at no cost to the homeowner for the first $10,000 worth of renovations, it’s also the first time Habitat for Humanity is bringing its Rock the Block program to the Chilton area. Homeowners will receive their renovations in exchange for “sweat equity”, working to complete them alongside Habitat volunteers.

The Rock the Block program works on both residential and community-based projects providing affordable repairs, including roofing, siding, window and door replacement, porch repairs, exterior repairs and improvements, painting and landscaping. All work through this program is made possible through volunteers and community donations. Following Rock the Block events, people experience an increased level of pride in their neighborhood as well as a renewed friendship with fellow neighbors.
