J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is proud to announce the Exotic Pet Surrender Event, providing a compassionate and responsible solution for pet owners who find themselves unable to care for their exotic pets.
Scheduled for June 15th, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM at the esteemed Ledgeview Nature Center, located at W2348 Short Rd, Chilton, WI 53014, this event aims to address the challenging issue of rehoming exotic pets while ensuring their well-being and preventing harm to the environment.
In collaboration with various local organizations, including the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, Winnebago Waterways, and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes, the Exotic Pet Surrender Event will provide pet owners with a “No Questions Asked” opportunity to surrender their fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants.
“It’s crucial to provide pet owners with a responsible alternative to releasing exotic pets into the wild,” says Kelsey Kurz, of J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. “Our event offers a safe and supportive environment for pet owners to surrender their animals, knowing they will be properly cared for and rehomed.”
While the event focuses on exotic pets, it’s important to note that domestic pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, and chickens will not be accepted. Pet owners in need of rehoming options for domestic animals are encouraged to contact local pet shelters or rescues.
Additionally, Wisconsin native animals taken from the wild will not be accepted at the event. However, attendees will receive information on licensed wildlife rehabilitators who may be able to assist with native animal rehoming.
Attendees of the Exotic Pet Surrender Event will have the opportunity to meet and learn about animal ambassadors and capture memorable moments with rescued pets at the event’s photobooth.
