Appleton International Airport (ATW) Director Abe Weber was named the best airport partner by The Cranky Flier. Weber was nominated by airline representatives in North and South America as the best air service and development leader in the industry. The award was presented at the annual Cranky Network Awards in Phoenix on February 27, 2025. In winning the award, multiple airlines acknowledged Weber’s creativity in marketing.
The Cranky Flier is an online platform that covers airline industry issues, news, and produces podcasts for news and commentary on the airline business. In addition to individual awards, airlines were awarded best new routes, best destinations in the Americas and globally, and other commendations.
“To have the airlines recognize what we’ve all known for so long is a big accomplishment,” said Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson. “Abe’s ability to build positive relationships with the carriers is one of the reasons why we’ve been experiencing the continued expansion at the airport.”
Each time an airline announces a new route or expands an existing route, Weber and the staff at Appleton International Airport create an event to celebrate. “When we announced American’s daily nonstop route to Dallas, we went all out,” Weber said. “We produced a video with horses trotting down College Avenue, hosted the horses in the terminal, broke out the cowboy hats, and celebrated with our team and travelers.”
