Atlas Science Center Joins Forces with the American Chemical Society for 2nd Annual Science Takeover

Unleash your curiosity and join Atlas Science Center on October 21 for their 2nd annual Science Takeover from 11:00 AM-4:00 PM.

This year features hands-on STEM activities all about health, medicine and the healing power of chemistry. It is a great time to unleash your curiosity and discover how science connects to our everyday lives.

Guests can join in the interactive fun at our Science Live! Stage Shows “Drug Discovery: How New Medicines are Made” (11:30 AM, 2:30 PM) and “Everyday Science: Cells, Germs and Soap” (1:00 PM). Our Paper Science Lab will feature how paper has had an important role in health and hygiene while making a sheet of your own (12:15 PM., 1:45 PM, 3:15 PM).

Spend time at the American Chemical Society tables featuring one-of-a-kind STEM applications throughout the day. Explore adhesives and materials when you Build a Better Bandage, learn about hot and cold chemistry with Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions, play with pH and learn about stomachaches doing Milk of Magnesia or make slime and talk mucus with Chemical Snot. You can also play an American Chemical Society Board Game – The Healing Power of Chemistry!

In addition, Emergency Room doctor Erin Eferem from ThedaCare will be there to teach you how to suture wounds by practicing on fruit.
