Appleton Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 Flag Day and Memorial Day Parades

The City of Appleton Parades Committee is now accepting applications for the 73rd Appleton Flag Day Parade. The biggest and best Flag Day Parade in the country is scheduled for Saturday, June 8.

“The Flag Day Parade embodies the power of patriotism in our community, where we come together to celebrate the spirit of America,” said Corey Otis, Chairperson for the City of Appleton Parades Committee. “It’s a cherished tradition that showcases our shared pride and reverence for the values that unite us as a nation.”

The theme of the 73rd Appleton Flag Day Parade is “Rockin’ in the U.S.A.” The Parade Grand Marshal, as always, is the United States Flag. Every year, the Flag Day Parade honors a branch of the military, and this year’s event will spotlight the United States Army, including the United States Army Reserve, Army National Guard, and affiliated veteran organizations.

Fox Cities residents have honored “Old Glory” on the second Saturday in June since 1950, making the Appleton Flag Day Parade the nation’s oldest. The celebration annually draws more than 50,000 spectators and participants from throughout the state and nation to Appleton.

Organizations interested in participating in the 73rd Appleton Flag Day Parade must complete and submit an official application before April 15, 2024. Groups can access the applications online via the City of Appleton website (www.appleton.org/visitors/appleton-parades) or the City of Appleton Parades Facebook page. Applicants are encouraged to incorporate this year’s theme, spotlighted branch of the military, and U.S. Flag.

The parade begins at 2:00 p.m.at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and N. Oneida Street. The route travels west down W. Wisconsin Avenue to N. State Street, south on N. State Street to W. College Avenue. At W. College Avenue the parade travels east and ends at Drew Street. The event is organized by the Appleton Parade Committee, a group of dedicated community volunteers. Follow the City of Appleton Parades on Facebook for updates on this year’s event.
