Ready Readers Fox Cities

Making an Impact for Young Readers!

Ready Readers Fox Cities is a subgroup of Leadership Fox Cities that's on a mission to provide books to young readers in our area. The need to get books in the hands of children is now more prominent than ever. With fewer children in schools or visiting libraries, providing a different route to get books into homes is important. Research shows that increased access to books in a household correlates with higher school readiness and greater future reading skills as a child grows up. Additionally, for infant/toddler populations, being read to and physically interacting with books are both developmentally important for developing communication skills, patience, and literacy. Ready Readers Fox Cities is proud to partner with the United Way and Scholastic Books to get books into the hands of eager readers this year.

We cannot meet this need alone. We need your help!

We are seeking donations to fund this program. Donations will in turn be used to purchase books that will be placed in local organizations for children to take home and enjoy. Books will be provided to readers in kindergarten through 9th grade. We are asking for a minimum donation of $250 (that amount provides more than 200 books!) but would be grateful for any amount you are able to provide. Donations are being accepted now through Friday, Feb. 26.

There is no financial obligation; just sign up and receive your books! Book orders will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 19 and will be delivered by the end of April.

Lucas Dorow
Lucas is a native of Kaukauna. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Norbert College in 2014. In the years following his education he has worked for East Wisconsin Savings Bank as an accounting assistant. As an avid traveler he is able to understand the world through cultural exploration, the inspirational qualities of nature, and lasting family memories. He says: "While adults are fortunate to have these luxuries, they become limited by the confines of founded beliefs and experiences. Children do not see such boundaries, and books are an affirmation that such things do not exist. Parents reading books aloud to children creates a bonding connection and an early understanding of what the world can be. Ready Readers Fox Cities is the link of the strong community culture of the Fox Cities and a return to the meaning of family time."
