After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Old Glory Honor Flight of Northeast Wisconsin announced today its Pulling for Honor fundraising competition will be held August 20, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Appleton International Airport.
All proceeds from the plane pulling competition benefit Old Glory Honor Flight and supports their mission of sending local veterans free-of-charge to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials erected in their honor. This year’s fundraising goal is $100,000 to fully fund one flight of 100 veterans.
“We are so grateful to the community for the overwhelming support we receive for this event,” said Diane Macdonald, Old Glory Honor Flight of Northeast Wisconsin executive director. “The more funds we raise, the more missions we can offer veterans to thank them for their service and sacrifice.”
Community members are invited to register teams of up to 20 people and each team is required to raise $1500 to participate. Teams will use a rope to pull a 200,000-pound FedEx A300 aircraft 20 feet and the team with the fastest time will win the competition. Prizes will also be awarded for the top three fastest pulls, most funds raised, and slowest pull.
"We are thrilled to again host the Pulling for Honor event at the airport," said Abe Weber, airport director. "This event is an exciting combination of competition and family fun that allows all of us at the airport to combine our passion for aviation with our respect for local veterans.”
The family-friendly event is open to the public with free admission and free parking. In addition to the pulling competition there will be educational veteran exhibits, a kiddie plane pull, bounce house, and inflatables. Food and beverage concessions will be available for purchase.
