The Student Leadership Program (SLP) -- a partnership between the Appleton Area School District, Gulfstream, and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce -- engages 150 sophomore and junior students in the Appleton Area School District and partners with area companies to promote and expose high school students to high demand career opportunities. Through teacher and community advisers, students learn important work-ready power skills for their future success in the workplace.
Volunteer Community Advisers (CA’s) are now being recruited to work with the Student Leadership Program in 2021-2022. CA’s work with teacher advisers to serve as mentors to students and facilitate leadership and work-ready skill develop sessions in a group setting. CA’s serve as a positive role model to students and actively engage with students at all SLP events. This is a great opportunity if you are passionate about working and mentoring students to help them prepare for their future success.
Specifically, volunteers assist with:
- 5 SLP events each year (calendar is set so advisers can plan accordingly)
- Opportunity for summer experience engagement
- Opportunities to meet and connect with other teachers and community advisers
- Mentor high school student and facilitate important life and work-ready leadership skills
- All lessons and program materials are provided
"Gulfstream is excited to continue partnering with the Appleton Area School District and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce to offer the Student Leadership Program," said Chris Nowicki, public affairs director at Gulfstream. "SLP brings together the business community, schools, and community stakeholders to introduce students to career opportunities in the region and teach them important work-ready power skills for their future success in the workplace and as leaders in their community."
