To support the rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) market, EnTech Solutions, a full-service clean energy solutions provider and sister company to Faith Technologies, has designed and installed a clean energy EV charging system at Bergstrom Automotive in Neenah, WI.
There were more than 1.7 million electric vehicles on U.S. roads in 2020, and that number is projected to skyrocket to nearly 7 million vehicles by 2025. The benefit of electric vehicles is tremendous in helping to reduce carbon emissions in the environment. Relying on the already stressed fossil-fuel utility grid removes much of the environmental impact EVs can make. Powering them with solar energy eliminates carbon emissions, while also being cost effective.
“We’re really pleased with EnTech’s EV charging solutions in providing clean energy charging for us and our guests,” said John F. Bergstrom, Chairman & CEO of Bergstrom Automotive. “These systems allow us to reduce carbon emissions, meet our corporate sustainability goals, control our utility costs and be good stewards of our environment," he stated.
Bergstrom Automotive was interested in a clean-energy option to support their EV charging needs, while reducing the impact of demand charges. Utilizing an Xcape™ microgrid solution, EnTech installed EV chargers in the front lot and in their service bay. Both units are powered by solar arrays with support from an onsite natural gas generator. The off-grid system can be monitored remotely and takes less than a week to install.
With solar as the primary power source, the dealership is able to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 50% compared to charging vehicles from the traditional utility grid. “EnTech’s microgrid-based EV charging units can each generate at least 23 megawatt hours of solar energy annually, enough for Bergstrom Automotive to provide nearly 500 electric vehicle charges,” said Scott Romenesko, EnTech Solutions President. “This system is always on and always available, without any interruptions that could arise because of utility outages," he stated.
