PRESENTED WITH 91.1 THE AVENUE
Turner Street Music Hall, located at 437 Turner Street, Wrightstown Wisconsin, will present with 91.1 The Avenue: Tom Thiel and Michael Grabner, Saturday, May 20, 2023, 7 PM. Attendees can enjoy a special 2 for 1 special using code 2FOR1 online.
Michael Grabner is an Appleton, WI based singer/songwriter who blends the intricate finger style guitar and down and out lyrics of Townes Van Zandt with the unique song structure and attention grabbing hooks of Elliot Smith. His unique take on Americana and roots music is informed by a diverse list of influences that range from Radiohead to Hank Williams. Michael recently released his second full length album, “A Story I Can’t Tell”, and can be found playing venues and festivals throughout Wisconsin.
Tom Thiel is a singer-songwriter from Appleton, WI, known for his time as lead guitarist for Wisconsin rock band Boxkar. They recorded 3 albums and played iconic venues like the Viper Room, Hard Rock Cafe Chicago, and an inaugural ball in Washington D.C.
Thiel left Boxkar to focus on writing and recording with his own trio and releasing his solo album “Old Shadows” in 2017. In 2018, he was named Singer-Songwriter of the Year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry. Thiel collaborated with slide guitar virtuoso Jay Stulo for the blues/rock album “Ghosts Around Here” in 2019 and released his second solo album “Armchair Astronaut” in 2021, featuring the haunting single “That Curious Moon”. The song’s accompanying music video was a finalist in the Stockholm Film Festival in 2023. Thiel’s musical influences include Chris Whitley, Bruce Springsteen, and Led Zeppelin. He often performs with “The Tom Thiel Trio” or as a solo artist around Wisconsin.
