Oshkosh Public Library welcomed a flurry of activity on August 10th as pet enthusiasts and organizations gathered for a highly successful Exotic Pet Surrender Event. Hosted by J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, Pet Advocacy Network, and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes, the event saw a tremendous turnout and resulted in the intake of 7 exotic animals in need of new homes.
The event, held from 9 AM to 1 PM, provided a crucial opportunity for those unable to continue caring for their exotic pets to surrender them safely and responsibly. In attendance were a variety of organizations dedicated to the well-being of exotic animals, including Wisconsin’s largest exotic pet rescue, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue.
Event-goers had the chance to interact with Animal Ambassadors, capture memories at a photobooth featuring rescued pets, and learn about the importance of responsible pet rehoming. “Our goal is to ensure that every exotic pet has the opportunity for a safe and loving home,” said Melissa Gassner, Event Specialist at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. “We are thrilled with the turnout and the positive impact we’ve been able to make in the lives of these animals.”
The event emphasized the harmful effects of releasing exotic pets into the wild and highlighted the importance of proper rehoming. All surrendered animals will undergo a brief quarantine period before being made available for adoption.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our event sponsors, Festival Foods, Chemi-Pure, Jellyfish Art, and Reef Aquaria Design, whose generous support helped make this event possible.
