As we quickly enter into the holiday season, we’re excited to encourage buying local during Small Business Saturday. While it is always important to shop and buy in your community, Appleton looks forward to celebrating all the great small businesses throughout the community on this special day.
This annual event always takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year it’s on Saturday, November 30. Small businesses across the country will be offering great deals and encouraging their communities to shop, dine and buy local. We are excited to share that free parking in the metered stalls in Downtown Appleton will be available all day on November 30, so our patrons may shop and dine freely throughout the day courtesy of the City of Appleton.
Over 60+ Downtown Appleton and other local small businesses will participate in the annual passport promotion on Small Business Saturday this year. Each business offers a unique discount available for the day that will be listed on the passport. Community members are encouraged to explore some of the participating businesses with their passport to shop for unique, local items.
When you stop into a store, you receive a stamp on your passport. If you get 5 stamps, you can turn in your passport to be entered to win a variety of prizes from the participating businesses, valued at $4,000.
“We’re engaging shoppers on Small Business Saturday with the Shop Appleton First Passport Program.” says Abby Novak, Marketing Director at Appleton Downtown, Inc. “It’s an annual holiday tradition for many of our loyal shoppers. They enjoy picking up the passport ahead of time to see what sales their favorite stores are having, and to discover what new shops have to offer.” says Novak.
Pick up your passport at any participating retailers leading up to the event. Passports can also be picked up at a variety of locations throughout Appleton, including at the Appleton Downtown office, at select Fox Communities Credit Union branches, and at the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau. If you’re participating in the Santa Scamper Run prior to the Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade, you’ll receive a passport with your run packet. You can also pick up your passport the day of the event at any participating business.
