On 12/31/2023 at approximately 8:40am, Menasha officers responded to the intersection of Washington Street and River Street in the City of Menasha for a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle had been northbound over the Washington Street bridge and struck the Sonoco Paper Mill at 69 Washington Street. Officers found the front seat passenger was not responsive and first responders began CPR at the scene. The driver was conscious and suffering from serious injuries. Both the 85 year old driver and 84 year old passenger were transported to Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Unfortunately, the passenger died of her injuries and the driver is in serious condition. At this time, we are not releasing the names of the involved individuals pending family notification. We would like to thank Neenah/Menasha Fire Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance, Menasha Public Works, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and the Neenah Police Department for their assistance during this incident. We would also like to thank the witnesses who remained on scene to assist. The exact cause of the crash still remains under investigation.
