7th annual Appleton East Tackles Cancer event

Published Monday, September 9, 2019

Friday, September 13, 2019 the Appleton East football team will take on Oshkosh North.  This game is also the 7th annual East Tackles Cancer event.  This event combines the efforts of Key Club, DECA and the football team to raise money for cancer related charities.  In the past, money has been raised for the MACC Fund, American Cancer Society, Make A Wish and the Snowdrop Foundation of Wisconsin.  This year’s event will once again raise money for the Snowdrop Foundation of Wisconsin.

The Snowdrop Foundation of Wisconsin is dedicated to assisting patients and families at Milwaukee’s Children’s Hospital through funding and continued research to eliminate childhood cancer.  It is also their mission to provide scholarships for college bound pediatric cancer patients and survivors.  Last year, East Tackles Cancer raised $11,900 for the Snowdrop Foundation.

This will be an especially moving year as we are using this event to honor a former East football player.  Marcel Van Linn - Thompson passed away in March at the age of 23 from cancer.  We will be using this event to raise money for the Snowdrop Foundation and to honor this courageous young man.  Appleton East Football meant a lot to Marcel and we  are excited to pay tribute to his memory with this event.

The event raises money through shirt sales, a raffle/auction and donations.  Shirts are available for purchase for $10 each. Admission to the game is free for anyone wearing the shirt that evening.  There will also be numerous items in the raffle and auction.  Face painters will also be on hand.  At the end of the game, there will be a one-lap walk around the track for cancer survivors and care-givers.

In addition to the game, there will be a fundraising event at Lillian’s of Appleton on Wednesday, September 11 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm.  For a $10 donation, shoppers will get a discount on their purchase.  Light refreshments will be served and East Tackles Cancer shirts will be available for purchase.
