More than 250 associates with J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. are starting the New Year in a new, modern workspace. The company recently completed a $7 million renovation of the Vinland Building, one of two facilities on its corporate campus at 3003 Breezewood Lane, Neenah.
The renovation, encompassing two stories and 65,000 square feet at the center of the Vinland Building, provides room for the J. J. Keller’s growing services business by converting some of the company’s warehouse areas to office space. It is also designed around providing associates with a great daily work experience. It features a 200-foot-long skylight to bring in natural light, inviting collaboration spaces and sit-stand desks for associates who want to be mobile throughout the day, and an overall open feeling.
Focus on Growth & The Associate Experience
“We built this facility in 1971, primarily for manufacturing and distribution. At that time, our focus was printing manuals to help customers understand regulations and safety rules,” said Rustin Keller, president and CEO of J. J. Keller. “Today, we’re growing in managed services, sales and technology. We’re developing new, innovative ways to help companies keep employees, highways and job sites safe. So we’re renovating to accommodate a growing number of associates in these areas.
“We’re also listening intently to our associates,” said Keller. “J. J. Keller is a certified Great Place to Work, but we aren’t going to sit back and be satisfied with that. We want to continually improve our associates’ daily experience. We relied on feedback from our associates to create an environment they enjoy, that provides flexibility, and that encourages collaboration and innovation.”
Safety & Environmental Success
As a provider of safety services and products and an ISO 14001:2015 certified company, J. J. Keller required safety and environmental impact be top of mind for all involved in the nearly year-long project. As a result of its sound, proactive safety and environmental plan, the company reported zero OSHA recordable incidents and successfully passed ISO 14001: 2015 audits during the project.
J.J. Keller selected Keller, Inc. – a separate entity, despite the similar name – as the design and build contractor for the renovation.
“When the Vinland project started, we all knew it was part of J. J. Keller demonstrating it is an employer of choice in the Fox Valley,” said Steve Klessig, vice president of architecture and engineering with Keller, Inc. “Now that the project is complete, we can see it also proved the idea that buildings can be saved and not discarded, that good design happens when a client participates in the process, and last, that when a client, designer and builder work together, great things are possible.”
More Renovations to Follow
J.J. Keller plans a series of smaller renovations across its other building locations over the next three years.
