Governor-Elect Tony Evers to speak at 2018 New North Summit

Wisconsin Governor-Elect Tony Evers will speak at the annual New North Summit, set for Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in downtown Appleton.


Evers was elected as the state’s next governor on Nov. 6, and is scheduled to become Wisconsin’s 46th Governor when he takes office on Jan. 7, 2019.


“We couldn’t be happier to have Governor-Elect Evers join us at this year’s New North Summit,” says Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North Inc.  “We look forward to hearing his perspective on the region, along with his plans for the state.”

Campaigning for the position of Wisconsin Governor, Evers’ primary stated priorities were improving Wisconsin’s public school system, affordable healthcare, and fixing the state’s roads and bridges.


Born in Plymouth, Wis., the 67-year old Evers has been a lifelong educator.  He began his career in 1976 in Tomah, Wis., and since has served as an education leader at every level – teacher, principal, school district administrator, CESA administrator, and deputy state superintendent – before his election to the state’s highest educational post.


Evers was voted as Wisconsin’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction in April 2009.  He was re-elected to the position in 2013 and 2017.


Evers holds bachelor’s (1974), master’s (1978) and doctorate (1986) degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Married to his high school sweetheart, Kathy, the couple has three adult children and seven grandchildren.
