Yesterday morning, individuals representing 147 families weathered cold and wind to receive food from a mobile food pantry in parking lot of the J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. corporate campus at 3003 Breezewood Lane, Neenah. More than 45 J. J. Keller associates staffed the food pantry from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“By providing a location for and finding volunteers to staff the mobile food pantry, the J. J. Keller Foundation had an opportunity to help address food insecurity in our area,” said Heidi Dusek, executive director of the foundation. “It also gave our volunteers a chance to hear the stories of those within our community, to connect with them and know how they are making a difference for families this holiday season.”
The volunteers, from J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc., a separate entity from the foundation, loaded carts and boxes, distributed food and restocked pallets. The 147 families they served represent 327 adults and 307 children – a total of 634 people with food this Thanksgiving week because of the event.
The mobile food pantry was provided in collaboration with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin®, Stock the Shelves®, and Walmart®, which donated shopping carts for use at the mobile food pantry.
“This was the first time the J. J. Keller Foundation partnered with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to offer a mobile food pantry on the J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. campus,” said Dusek. “And by all accounts, it was a huge success.”
Any leftover food from the mobile food pantry was donated to local food pantries within the Neenah area to stock their shelves for other community members in need.
