In an effort to increase female enrollment in local STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs, Miron Construction Co., Inc. has teamed up with Miller Electric and the Talent Collaborative of the Fox Cities Chamber to provide the third annual Smart Girls Rock! event in the Fox Cities, scheduled for Thursday, October 12.
Approximately 100 freshmen and sophomore female students from Appleton, Brillion, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Hilbert, Little Chute, Menasha, Neenah, Stockbridge and Winneconne will attend the one-day event at Miron Construction, 1471 McMahon Drive in Neenah, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The students will experience group speed mentoring with 28 women in STEM-related professions, as well as participate in other interactive activities which will expose the students to in-demand STEM careers.
Group speed mentoring is a form of mentoring which provides a valuable learning opportunity for less experienced individuals while requiring a limited commitment of time and resources for more experienced individuals serving as mentors. Smart Girls Rock! allows young girls to set career goals and start taking steps to realize the realities of those goals.
During the speed mentoring sessions, small groups of students will move through 14 stations, comprised of panels of professional women as well as hands-on activities that range from solving a crime scene to virtual welding and engineering to the field of medicine.
Smart Girls Rock! is made possible through the generous support of: Miron Construction Co., Inc., Miller Electric Mfg. Co., the Talent Collaborative of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, Appvion, Festival Foods, Katapult, Red Shoes PR, Radisson Paper Valley Hotel and the Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region.
