Matthews Tire is hosting their 11th Oil Change for the Better event September 25-30, 2017. For every regular priced oil change performed throughout the week at all six locations (in Appleton–East and West, Green Bay, Menasha, Fond du Lac and Waupaca), Matthews Tire will donate $10 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night© event in Appleton October 6, 2017.

“Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone loses their battle,” Light The Night Campaign Manager Megan Kreuter shared. “Our mission is to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease, plus improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Money raised will help local families with the financial difficulties that accompany a cancer diagnosis, will help fund support groups, and be used to further lifesaving research and new treatments.”

Part of a nationwide event, Appleton’s Light The Night will take place Friday, October 6th at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Casaloma Drive. Registration will begin at 4:30pm, with a walk and firework show to follow. All walk participants will receive a paper lantern. Matthews Tire will have paper lanterns on display at all six locations throughout Oil Change for the Better in anticipation of the event.

“September is blood cancer awareness month so we thought this would be a great time to bring light to such a worthy cause and special Appleton event,” shared Matthews Tire President Trevor Rezner. “This cause is particularly special to the Matthews Tire family as our long-time associate and friend Kristy Christensen will be recognized as this year’s honorary hero.” Christensen, a lymphoma survivor, serves on the LLS Wisconsin Chapter executive committee and will be giving a keynote speech at this year’s Light The Night walk.

Light The Night© is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s nationwide evening
fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. In 2016, the LLS’s Light The Night walk raised over $68.5 million nationally for research and patient services. Participants walk along a two-mile route, carrying illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold for in memoriam.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS is the light that shines to eradicate not only leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, but scores of other cancers as well. Because blood is easier to reach, test and study than solid tumors, research advances more rapidly. Of the 67 FDA-approved drugs to treat cancer, just about half were originally intended to treat blood cancers and many were advanced by LLS. LLS provides patient support to deliver emotional, financial, and informational resources to patients and their families. Last year in Wisconsin, LLS distributed more than 1.4 million dollars to patients as part of our Co-Pay Assistance program and is currently supporting two research projects at the University of Wisconsin.

Oil Change for the Better is a semi-annual, weeklong charity event held by Matthews Tire. This September will be the eleventh Oil Change for the Better event. In the last five years, Matthews Tire has raised over $25,225 for various local non-profits including Fox Valley Humane Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Salvation Army, Disabled American Veterans Transportation Program, Catalpa Health’s Race for a Reason, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Old Glory Honor Flight, Saving Paws Animal Rescue and Walleyes for Kids.

Matthews Tire is a locally owned tire and automotive service provider with locations in Fond du Lac, Menasha, Appleton—both East and West, Green Bay and Waupaca. The last Oil Change for the Better event was held earlier this year in May and raised $2,500 for Walleyes for Kids. For more information, visit
