The 67th Annual Flag Day Parade will pay tribute to the United States Coast Guard on Saturday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m. The event is recognized as the oldest Flag Day Parade in the nation.
There is a full day of events surrounding this year’s parade including:
12:00pm - The 484th Army Band of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will perform a patriotic concert in Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton at the corner of College Avenue and Appleton Street at 12:00pm. The concert is open to the public with free admission. Bring a lawn chair.

1:30pm – More than 100 motorcycles from The American Legion Riders Association of Wisconsin will escort as thousands of free U.S. flags are handed out along the Parade route just before the Parade begins. Employees of Pierce Manufacturing and WHBY Radio will be handing out free flags as sponsors of the giveaway. The motorcycle group is touring Wisconsin to benefit The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.
2:00-4:30pm – The parade begins at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Oneida Street. This year’s parade theme is “United We Stand”. “We honor a different branch of the military each year,” according to Greg Otis, Parade Chairman. “This is the Coast Guard year to feature and celebrate. We have military musical and drum groups scheduled from all over the country.”
The Honorary Parade Marshal is Captain Amy (Baribeau) Cocanour, currently serves as Commander, Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan. As such, she leads 23 Coast Guard units with a force of over 500 Active Duty, 200 Reserve and 1200 Auxiliary personnel conducting Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Aids to Navigation, Marine Safety, and Homeland Security missions in the states of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
The parade will feature military units and military marching bands from throughout the nation. It will include about 100 total units consisting of veterans' organizations, drum and bugle corps, scout troops, patriotic floats, decorated vehicles, walking units and area marching bands.
A few featured groups schedule to appear include: The 2nd Marine Air Wing Band from Cherry Point, North Carolina, The 484th Army Band from Milwaukee, Marty’s Goldenaires Senior Drum & Bugle Corps from Bessemer, Michigan, and the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps. from Milwaukee.
The parade begins at 2 p.m. from Wisconsin Avenue and Oneida Street, heading west. At State Street, it turns left and proceeds south to College Avenue. At College, it turns left again and proceeds east to Drew Street, dispersing at Drew Street and College Avenue.
WFRV-TV Local 5 will videotape the parade for re-broadcast in the Green Bay/Fox Cities area. This will allow viewers in all of Northeastern Wisconsin to see the parade.
5:00pm - Appleton’s American Legion Post No. 38 welcomes the public to their annual Post Flag Day Parade Party, on Saturday, June 10th, 2017, at 5:00 PM at the Appleton American Legion’s Don Hawkins Field at 3220 West College Avenue at the corner of College Avenue & Bluemound Drive in Appleton. The event will feature a patriotic concert by the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band of Cherry Point, North Carolina, and a performance by Marty’s Goldenaires Senior Drum & Bugle Corps from Bessemer, Michigan.
The event is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be available.
