Appleton’s fifth annual Street Music Week will take place from June 12 to June 16, 2017. Hosted by Heid Music in partnership with Appleton Downtown, Inc., volunteer street musicians will jam along College Avenue, between Drew Street and Walnut Street, from noon to 1:00 p.m., while collecting donations to support Feeding American Eastern Wisconsin.
“Street Music Week is a fun way for Heid Music to give back to our community, while sharing our love of music with others,” said Todd Heid, president and third-generation owner of Heid Music. “Over the last four years, hundreds of musicians have donated their time and talents during Street Music Week, helping us raise nearly $10,000 for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.”
“For every dollar donated we can provide three meals to those facing hunger in our communities,” said Patti Habeck, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “Support from events like Street Music Week goes a long way in helping us to solve hunger in eastern Wisconsin. We are grateful to Heid Music and all of the musicians who are contributing their time and talent for such a wonderful event.”
Street Music Week began in Spokane, Wash. in 2002 to help raise money for a local food bank. Today, additional cities also host Street Music Week during the second week of June to help feed the hungry in their local communities. This year, Appleton organizers hope to raise $5,000 in recognition of the Street Music Week’s fifth year in the Fox Cities.
Musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome and encouraged to lend their talents during Street Music Week. Volunteer musicians are asked to stop by Heid Music Appleton, 308 E. College Ave., at 11:30 a.m. each day of the event to register and pick up a donation bucket.
Volunteers will also collect donations from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 at Houdini Plaza, during the Heid Music Summer Concert Series featuring the WAMI-award-winning Spicy Tie Band. Everyone who donates that evening can enter to win a new Fender® guitar.
In addition, donations in support of Street Music Week will be collected at the Heid Music tent during the summer’s first Downtown Appleton Farm Market on Saturday, June 17.
Fourteen Downtown Appleton, Inc.-partnering businesses will offer musicians and those who donate specials during Street Music Week.
Appleton’s Street Music Week is made possible through in-kind support from Harrison Printing & Promotions, FastSigns, and 4Imprint. Follow Street Music Week activities across social media using #StreetMusicWeek.
