Tasty dishes robed in chocolate, some spiced and savory, and chocolate laced beverages will be on the menu for the 14th annual Death By Chocolate in Downtown Appleton from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day.

Twenty Downtown businesses will offer chocolate-themed taste treats in this popular event in Appleton’s Downtown. Participants may walk from venue to venue, sampling the delicacies. Tundraland is this year’s Star Supporter for the event.

Tickets for the event go on sale beginning January 14 and will be available for purchase online at or by calling the ADI office at (920) 954-9112. Tickets are $20 each and quantities are limited. Credit card orders will be accepted. Event proceeds will benefit Downtown programs. Participants must be 21 or older to partake at some establishments.

“This is a super fun event and tickets really sell fast,” says Anne Wiegman, Appleton Downtown Inc. marketing director. “Who doesn’t love chocolate! The chefs really show their creativity and come up with decadent desserts, drinks and all sorts of dishes you wouldn’t expect. It’s a great way to break up the long stretch of winter and to celebrate Valentine’s Day.”

At the close of the event, participants are invited to vote for their favorite chocolate treat at any of the participating venues. Votes will determine this year’s winning venue, which will be presented with the annual People’s Choice Award, along with bragging rights for the year.

“This is a fun element of the Death By Chocolate event each year,” Wiegman says. “The chefs get very creative and trendy with their offerings, and it gives them something special to ‘hang their hats on’ for the rest of the year.”

The event includes chocolate themed beverages, entree items, desserts and confections, as well as prize drawings for Downtown Appleton gift certificates.
