91.9/91.5 The Family-Appleton/Oshkosh/Green Bay: 91.9/91.5 The Family’s 19th annual ‘Christmas Care’ gift drive wrapped up with more than 2000 brightly decorated Christmas Care shoe box gifts delivered to 35 local crisis programs and emergency rooms for people in need or in crisis this Christmas.
The event has become a favorite for shelter staff and hospital emergency room workers who watch carefully for clients/patients in crisis or lacking adequate clothing and who clearly need a Christmas Care gift.
“A tall, elderly man who had fallen came in for our help and he ended up staying overnight. He was upset with the thought of spending Christmas in the hospital. There was a Christmas Care gift marked ‘for a tall man’, and we gave that to him. He was tearful - and told us it was the only present he had gotten in years - he was delighted by the gift, and said that this made his Christmas. Thank you!” - St. Mary’s Medical Center Staff, Green Bay
91.9/91.5 The Family wishes to thank everyone who donated a gift, as well as everyone who volunteered their time to inspect, sort, and deliver the presents. Thanks also to the crisis agency and hospital staff members who will now use the gifts to provide some much-needed comfort and joy to those they serve this Christmas.
Area residents were invited to fill a wrapped shoe box with "something warm, something useful, and something fun” for someone in need, to label their gift for the age and gender of the recipient, and to deliver gifts to local collection sites by Dec. 7th.
Christmas Care is sponsored by 91.9/91.5 The Family with Fox 11, Woodman’s Markets, Pizza Ranch, and Pet Supplies ‘Plus’ in Appleton.
