The Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions, along with the help of the World Council of Credit Unions, are selling candy bars in most of their Credit Union branches.

World Council of Credit Unions has long worked with credit unions in West Kenya. In every village they found large numbers of HIV AIDS-afflicted orphans.

In the small town of Busia, Kenya, Stella Achieng Egesa was stunned by the number of orphans living on the streets.  When her husband unexpectedly died in a car accident, Stella turned a personal tragedy into a blessing for others as she used her husband’s life insurance to convert a run-down hotel into the Busia Compassionate Centre Orphanage.

Stella was asked, “What is your dream?” … “Food for the children, a chance to go to university for the ones graduating now from high school, electricity to have lights, books for a library... and some day running water and electricity,” she answered.

With that in mind, the Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions stepped in to help their friends across the globe. From the sale of candy bars in the Credit Unions the Chapter will be donating over $13,000 toward a clean water well and stocking the library with books.

The candy bars are only $1 and with the Christmas spirit in the air, we can all give a little to help fulfill many children’s dreams this year, here and abroad. We can’t do it without you!
