Registration Now Open for 2016-2017 Green Bay and De Pere Youth Hockey

De Pere Youth Hockey (DPYH) and the Green Bay Area Youth Hockey Association (GBAYHA) are gearing up for the upcoming season and registration is open for beginner and experienced players from ages four to eighteen.

As a result of an extensive review process, GBAYHA and DPYH are able to recruit the best coaching staff in the area. Every coach strives to provide safe hockey instruction and games for players, both in competitive and recreational team environments.

University of Alabama at Huntsville Head Hockey Coach Mike Corbett reflects on his time with GBAYHA and how it led him to where he is today. In Green Bay, I went from one side of the bench to the other. Hockey is about always evolving and continuing to get better,” said Corbett.

With 18 years of hockey under his belt, Corbett understands all aspects of the game and knows how important sports like hockey are in developing skills and values in youth. “Because hockey is a fast-paced game, kids have the opportunity to touch the puck at any point,” said Corbett. “They’re part of a team and learn to fight through adversity,” he added.

Safety is a main concern when introducing a new player to a sport, especially with younger children. GBAYHA and DPYH focus on maintaining an environment where children—and parents—feel safe. “The advancement of equipment has helped reduce the number of injuries. In fact, there are more concussions in soccer than in football and hockey combined,” said Corbett. “You get more out of the sport than the risk of injuries; the sport keeps on giving and the players keep on learning.”

Program highlights include:

  • Learn the values of sportsmanship, character, leadership and respect
  • Develop hockey skills and love for the game
  • Train with the best coaching staff in the area
  • Participate in a safe environment
  • Benefit from fitness, teamwork and cooperation
  • Contribute to the greater good of the community

“Once you play hockey, you’ll never trade it for anything in the world,” said Corbett.
