Learn 2 Fish with Us, a local nonprofit committed to educating and inspiring beginner and experienced anglers, invites anyone who loves fishing to attend a volunteer recruiting event on September 20th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Waverly Beach in Menasha. Through the event, the nonprofit aims to boost volunteer participation as it ramps up for a full schedule of educational fishing programs in 2017.
The evening at Waverly Beach will include a casting competition with Learn 2 Fish With Us founder and president Greg Karch followed by a Mexican buffet at a nominal cost of $10.00 per person. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the organization and talk to 2016 volunteers about upcoming events and the types of activities volunteers can assist with in 2017. To register for the dinner, visit Eventbrite.com and search “Learn 2 Fish With Us”.
For Karch, the dinner is a celebration as much as it is a recruitment event. “Our volunteers share a passion for the sport of fishing, and their hard work year-round helps us touch the lives of hundreds of kids and families,” he explained. “That’s something worth celebrating, and we welcome anyone with a passion for fishing to come out and learn about our mission.”
Learn 2 Fish With Us, Inc., was founded in 2006 by Greg Karch, a certified angler educator and instructor. The organization gained 501(c)3 nonprofit status in 2015 and now operates under the guidance of a local, five-person board of directors. With a mission of growing the sport of fishing through free, educational programs, the organization teaches youth, families and fishermen tips, techniques and safety for open water and ice fishing. The organization has hosted over 130 fishing clinics, educating over 20,000 anglers, and has earned two awards for the education and outreach of fishing and preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species.
