Affinity Visiting Nurses – Home Health in Neenah honored Dawn Norris, RN, for being the “best of the best” during our second 2016 DAISY Award ceremony.

This is the first year Affinity Visiting Nurses has been participating in the DAISY Award program. Recipients are selected quarterly, based on their clinical expertise and demonstration of extraordinary compassionate care. The winners receive a certificate that reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The honoree is also given a pin and a hand-carved sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” created by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.

Dawn’s nomination states that “she displays her professionalism without fail in her cheerful, caring and encouraging approach.”

Other nurses nominated for this award were:
Janis Baron Dombrowsky – Stevens Point
Tricia Maier – Wausau
Shannon Casper, Vicki Silloway, Michelle Gunderson, Robin Holte – Neenah
Mona Rabas – Sturgeon Bay

The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System). The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. A special thank you to State Legislator Mike Rohrkaste (Winnebago County) and Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert for attending this celebration.
