Old Glory Honor Flight accepted a $2,500 donation from Matthews Tire President Trevor Rezner. The money was raised during the Matthews semi-annual Oil Change for the Better event held May 16-21, 2016. Matthews Tire tallied all regular priced oil changes through the week and pledged to donate $5 from each oil change to the Old Glory Honor Flight program.
Old Glory Honor Flight offers local World War II and Korean War veterans memorable, safe and rewarding trips—completely free of charge to the vet—to visit the many war and military memorials in our Nation’s Capital. It’s a small way of saying “thank you” for their service to, and sacrifices for, our country. Mission 35 took place on May 11, 2016 which marked the 35th trip transporting our local veterans.
“It is through the generosity of business people in our community, such as Trevor Rezner and Matthews Tire, that allows us to continue these flights for our veterans,” said Steve Trinker of Old Glory Honor Flight. “It is amazing being part of a day that brings 80 to 90 vets together to share their experiences. Their camaraderie is truly inspiring.”
This was the eighth Oil Change for the Better event held at all six Matthews Tire locations in Appleton (both east and west), Green Bay, Menasha, Fond du Lac and Waupaca. In the last four years, Matthews Tire has raised over $20,000 for various local non-profits including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin, Golden House, Fox Valley Humane Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Salvation Army, Disabled American Veterans Transportation Program and Catalpa Health’s Race for a Reason.
Old Glory Honor Flight’s mission is to honor local veterans with a rewarding tour of honor to our nation’s capital. The trip happens all in one day and is completely free for the veterans. The first local honor flight, transporting 95 veterans, took place in October of 2009. See more at www.oldgloryhonorflight.org.
