Brad Severson of R.A. Smith National — a nationwide, multi-disciplined civil and structural engineering and surveying firm —in Appleton, Wis., has been promoted to project manager in the transportation division.
In this role, Severson is responsible for the design of transportation facilities for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), county highway departments and local units of government. Additionally, he is responsible for professional development and mentoring staff members.
Severson has more than 12 years of experience as a lead project engineer. Severson’s expertise is the design and analysis of roundabouts, having completed the design of more than 125 single-, dual- and triple-lane roundabouts. A few of his projects include the I-39/WIS 59 interchange with three convertible single-/multi-lane roundabouts in Rock County; WIS 32/Happy Lane, a single-lane roundabout in Sheboygan Falls; and the award-winning WIS 145 in Washington County that consists of five single- and multi-lane roundabouts.
Severson holds a bachelor of science in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin and also is a certified Level 2 Roundabout Designer by WisDOT. He joined R.A. Smith National in 2003.
Severson currently resides in Freedom, Wisconsin.
