Volunteers Rehabilitate 15 Homes as a Part of Rebuilding Togetherís National Project Day on May 14

Published Friday, May 13, 2016

Rebuilding Together Fox Valley, a nonprofit organization with a vision of a safe and healthy home for every person will hold its 16th annual National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, May 14.

For the past 16 years Rebuilding Together Fox Valley has brought volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of the growing population of low-income homeowners in need, completing hundreds of critical home repair and community improvement projects.  This year Rebuilding Together Fox Valley will complete 15 projects as part of National Rebuilding Day, bringing together over 500 volunteers to serve low-income homeowners and community partners in the Fox Cities.

Corporations and individuals throughout our community provide home sponsorships and organize teams of unskilled and skilled tradespeople to work together to complete the critical repairs on these homes.  The “Presenting Sponsors” this year are the J.J. Keller Foundation and Thrivent Financial.  The Home and Community Sponsors are: Bongers Family and Friends, U.S. Venture, Capital Credit Union, Guardian, Nestle Pizza Division, Fox Communities Credit Union, Bassett Mechanical, SCA Tissue, Prospera Credit Union, Community First Credit Union, Associated Bank, SECURA and Appleton Alliance Church.

One of the homes being repaired is a shared project between Rebuilding Together Fox Valley and Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity as part of the Rock the Block project.  Sharing services will allow for additional critical repairs that the homeowner would otherwise not be able to afford.

Rebuilding Together Fox Valley has also partnered with Fox Valley Technical College to engage the Construction Project Management students to help lead the home repair projects, providing hands on valuable experience for the students.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are 5.2 million homeowners who live in deteriorating, physically inadequate homes that threaten their wellbeing. Therefore, the demand for Rebuilding Together’s services continues to grow as limited income homeowners, faced with diminishing resources, must choose food and medicine over critical home repairs. Choices that, over time, lead to home deteriorations such as crumbling foundations, dangerously sagging roofs, and windows and doors that can’t be secured for their own safety.

National Rebuilding Day is the National organization's nationwide call to provide safe and healthy homes for America's low in-come homeowner's and families across the country, bringing together nearly 100,000 volunteers to complete about 10,000 rebuild project nationwide each year.
