Fleet Feet Sports Fox Valley Adds a Third Summer Hydration Station

Published Friday, April 29, 2016

This Saturday, April 30 marks the start of the now annual summer-long Saturday morning hydration stations offered in partnership with the City of Appleton Parks, Recreation, & Facilities Management and Fleet Feet Sports.

New for Summer 2016, a third location has been added to the Apple Creek Trail at its intersection with French Road, just northeast of the USA Youth soccer fields. The intersection of Ballard Road and Evergreen Drive is also covered on the Apple Creek Trail, along with the spot where the Newberry Trail travels underneath the College Ave Bridge, near the Banta Bowl, along the river. The hydration stations will be available 6:30AM until 10:30AM through September 24, 2016. All walkers, cyclists, runners, and passers-by are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of the hydration station.

Says Tom Flick, Deputy Director of the Parks, Recreation, & Facilities Management Department, “The City of Appleton is ecstatic to once again team up with Fleet Feet to offer Hydration Stations throughout City trails. With expanding to a third station in 2016, this shows the passion and willingness of Fleet Feet to help improve the quality of life and enhance community enrichment.” Flick was involved in identifying and approving the additional location. “These stations play a vital role in ensuring trail users have options for hydration while also providing the City with user counts that assist in gaining state and federal grants for trails expansions.”

This is Fleet Feet Sports’ fourth summer making the hydration stations available to the community and co-Operator Jeremy Schapiro doesn’t see any reason to stop. “It’s been a great partnership with the City of Appleton and contributing to our community is exactly what our business is about; it reinforces the message we share internally with our team all the time.” With predictions for a warmer than average summer, Schapiro continues, “thirst is not an indicator of dehydration. Once you are thirsty, you are already low on fluids. If the summer is as hot as the winter was cold, we hope people will plan their routes accordingly and take advantage of the opportunity to stay hydrated.”
