Dallas Seavey captured the 2016 Iditarod Alaskan Sled Dog Race title at 2:20:16 a.m. ADST Tuesday — his third in a row and fourth in five years — and set a new world record in the process, with a time of 8 days, 11 hours, 20 minutes and 16 seconds. His previous record set in 2014 was 8 days, 13 hours, 4 minutes and 19 seconds.
This is the tenth consecutive year Dallas has been sponsored by James and Rosanne Keller, representing J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. The Kellers were at the finish line early Tuesday to greet their champion. Said James Keller, “Dallas is the best musher in the world! He keeps amazing us as an elite athlete who is dedicated to his craft. We are very proud of his 4th championship in the past five years. Dallas is a power to be reckoned with, building his team and strategy on a foundation of endurance, dedication and tenacity.”
Seavey won the 44th annual “Last Great Race On Earth®” by edging out a pack of tough mushing teams who were all within a few hours of each other at White Mountain, with 77 miles left to go. One of those fierce competitors is also one of Dallas’ biggest fans — his father — two-time champion Mitch Seavey, who placed second, coming into Nome 45 minutes behind Dallas.
