Toward a Welcoming Workplace

Global Fox Cities, Workplace Diversity Training for the 21st Century, is a pioneer training module offered by the Chamber in partnership with Innovative Learning Strategies of Appleton. Providing excellent diversity training as a service to area businesses has become an expectation, and has prepared more than 200 individuals to communicate and work effectively together.

Sessions have been built upon the premise that the workplace is where Americans from different ethnic, geographic, age and gender backgrounds meet and forge bonds by working together. How to communicate across cultures and how to understand different ways of looking at the world are the primary tenets of Global Fox cities curriculum.

Sessions involve extensive interaction among speakers and participants; access for participants to comfortably ask questions of people from several cultures, and thought-provoking experiences that provide opportunities to learn about new communities within our community. Companies that have implemented workplace diversity initiatives share their experiences and models. Presenters and participants freely share their knowledge expectations.

While the initial target audience for the training was business people, many educators have joined the classes and have brought forward valuable information they have gathered working with diverse children and their parents in school settings. That, in turn, is helpful for employers who work with parents at their companies.

The next session of Global Fox Cities will be held Friday, December 15, 2006, at the Fox Cities Chamber offices, 125 N. Superior St., Appleton. Cost to participate is $250, including materials and an ethnic lunch sampler.
