Economic Development

Job creation and economic development are front-and-center on the public policy agenda for the foreseeable future in Northeast Wisconsin. Considerable energy is being expended to enhance our ability to grow and prosper in the future. Most importantly, the focus for efforts is increasingly regional in scope and involves securing the active support of major stakeholders in a truly collaborative approach.

The Fox Cities Chamber is working with the Northeast Wisconsin Chamber Coalition, the Fox Cities Economic Development Partnership, Northeast Wisconsin Economic Development Partnership, Northeast Wisconsin Educational Resource Alliance, area Workforce Development Boards and area units of government to fashion an effective strategy. On the regional level, the Fox Cities Chamber participates in efforts to brand Northeast Wisconsin through collaboration with the NEW North.

Economic Feasibility Study

In conjunction with the Chamber's Local Issues Committee, the Fox Cities Economic Development Partnership applied for a Wisconsin Department of Commerce community block grant to engage in an economic development feasibility study that included research on the potential for a regional business park. Calumet County applied for the funding on behalf of the collaborative partners, and was granted $475,000 for phase one of a three-phase study.

Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties, along with 19 municipalities, are the target area of the study. The subject area has a population of 213,000 people, according to 2000 census figures.

S.B. Friedman, a Chicago-based economic development consulting firm, has been retained and has begun the initial steps in the study.
